Permanent Member Shares

What are Permanent Shares?

Permanent Shares are your long-term investments in your Credit Union:
They represent the extent of each member’s ownership of or equity in the Credit Union.

Each Permanent Share costs $5.00.

These shares are really ownership shares. They cannot be withdrawn; they can only be transferred when the member gives up membership. The minimum permanent shares required to become a member is twenty (20).

How does a member benefit from having Permanent Shares?

Financial Inclusion: Members will enjoy greater access to larger loans. Unlike any other financial institution, members of the St Patrick’s Co-operative Credit Union can buy shares every day and at any time during working hours.

Financial Empowerment: Where else does the ordinary citizen exercise popular control through individual ownership of a financial institution? Only in the Credit Union! These financial resources blend with the human capital (volunteer and staff) to help grow and modernize the products and capacity of your Credit Union to better serve you and generations-to-come.

How does the Credit Union benefit?

Permanent Shares give the St Patrick’s Co-operative Credit Union another option for raising capital to operate effectively and efficiently.

Permanent Shares will increase the capital of SPCCU and allow it to undertake expansion and enhancement of services, e.g. medium-to-long term loans for business, education, mortgages.

Fixed Deposits/CDs

What are fixed deposits/CDs?

The SPCCU certificate of deposit, also called a CD, is a type of savings certificate. Members may save between EC$10,000.00 – EC$500,000.00 with the credit union for a minimum of 1 year, and in return is guaranteed a locked interest rate between 2.25% to 2.5%.

These are very beneficial for members, especially for those who want non-risky methods of investment with guaranteed returns, such as the elderly, or youth wanting to set money aside, a certificate of deposit is an excellent investment alternative.
